Byodo-in Temple in Uji of Kyoto is one of the cultural assets on behalf of Japan.
This temple was founded in 1052, and there is the history of about 1, 000 years.
In addition, Byodo-in Temple is appointed as the World Heritage List as part of the cultural assets of ancient capital of Kyoto.
The scenery of 鳳凰堂(Hoo-do) and the garden which are a representative building is very beautiful.
鳳凰堂(Hoo-do) ‘s repair is completed in 2014, and the design of the Heian era was revived!

2.About Byodo-in Temple
Byōdō-in (平等院) is a Buddhist temple in the city of Uji in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, built in late Heian period. It is jointly a temple of the Jōdo-shū (Pure Land) and Tendai-shū sects.

As well as 鳳凰堂(Hoo-do) which is representative in Byodo-in Temple, there is the highlight such as “平等院鳳翔館(Byodoin Museum Hoshokan)” which is the Japan’s first religious corporation art museum.
There are a lot of souvenir shop and cafes on the approach to this temple.
The Uji River on my way to the temple is also very beautiful.
Uji is the place noted in connection with the Tale of Genji(Author: Murasaki Shikibu).

Admission fee is 600 yen for adults.
300 yen needs the inside visit of 鳳凰堂(Hoo-do) separately.

Most Japanese answer is as follows… “It is a 10 yen coin!!”
The reason is because 鳳凰堂(Hoo-do) is designed to 10 yen coin.

The Amitabha image which is enshrined in 鳳凰堂(Hoo-do) was appointed as a national treasure and Michelin green guide ★★★.
As for the season of the fresh green and colored leaves, it is particularly beautiful.
The flower of the lotus blooms in July.
This lotus is called “平等院蓮(Byodo-in Temple lotus)”, and it is the natural scene or object which adds poetic charm to the season of the early summer of Byodo-in Temple.

This is the important cultural property of a country built in the Kamakura era.

●平等院鳳翔館(Byodoin Museum Hoshokan)
This is the first real museum in Japan for a religious corporation.
Unfortunately photography is prohibited in this museum.
The exhibition area where 26 statuees of WorshipingBodhisattvas on Clouds which are a national treasure are exhibited is splendid.

●鐘楼(bell tower)(The one of the Japan’s three biggest ancient bells.)
This bell tower is one of the Japan’s three biggest ancient bells.
(Two of others are Jingo-ji (Kyoto) and Mii-dera Temple (Shiga).)
The bell displayed on the bell tower is a replica. The original bell is exhibited in a museum.
●浄土院(Jodo-in)
Jodoin is a sub-temple of Byodo-in.
This is a sub temple of Byodo-in, but it is an excellent temple.
This is大書院(Daishoin (large drawing room)) and 養林庵書院(Shoin of Yorinan) of Jodo-in. It is important cultural property.
●最勝院(Saisho-in)
最勝院(Saisho-in) is also a sub-temple of Byodo-in.
There is a grave of Yorimasa Minamotono.
5.Goshuin of Byodo-in Temple
There are two kinds of Goshuin((鳳凰堂(Hoo-do) and 阿弥陀如来(Amitabha))) in Byodo-in Temple.
This is the shrine seal of “鳳凰堂(Hoo-do)”. The red seal of the design of phoenix is characteristic.
6.How to get to Byodo-in Temple

Nearest station of Byodo-in is “Keihan Uji Line Uji Station” or “JR Uji Station”.

About 10 minutes walk.
